THE WIDE-BEVEL FOUNDATION

The proprietary resin formula.

Roughly 30% diamond content.
Fast cutting for easier foundation polishing.

The new resin binder creates a harder version of Luzi, bringing its sword-polisher origins into a design more accessible to polishing enthusiasts. Luzi's proprietary formula combines very fast cutting with very shallow scratches, making wide-bevel foundation polishing easier before the natural-stone stages that follow.

DEVELOPED WITH SWORD POLISHERS

Sword-polisher roots.
A wider invitation.

Luzi began in collaboration with sword polishers. The new, harder resin-binder formula brings that foundation-polishing approach to a more accessible design for wide-bevel work, with natural-stone stages to follow.

01

Built together.

Luzi's initial design was developed in collaboration with sword polishers, with foundation polishing at its heart.

02

A harder direction.

The harder version uses a new formula and a new resin binder. It is Luzi reworked for a wider community, without changing the focus on foundation polishing.

03

The same devotion.

For polishing enthusiasts who treat a kitchen knife with the attention they give a katana: wide-bevel foundation work first, natural-stone refinement later.

02 / THE PROGRESSION

Luzi first.
Natural next.

The recommended four-grit foundation:
240, 400, 1000, 3000. Then natural stones.

A few things to know
  1. Prepare for bevel work.

Follow the care and wetting instructions for your exact stone, and set up a stable work surface. Keep the intended wide-bevel geometry in mind.

  2. Lay the foundation.

Our documented recommendation is 240, 400, 1000, and 3000. Work through this four-grit progression for wide-bevel foundation polishing, keeping fingers clear of the edge.

  3. Move to natural stones.

After the 3000 stone, continue with the natural-stone stages suited to your blade and desired finish. The Luzi set lays the foundation; natural stones take the progression further.

Who is Luzi designed for?

Polishing enthusiasts who treat kitchen knives with the same attention as a katana. Luzi is optimized for wide-bevel work and foundation polishing before the later natural-stone stages.

What changed in the harder version?

The initial Luzi design was developed in collaboration with sword polishers. To bring that approach to more people, Luzi developed a harder version with a new formula and a new resin binder. Luzi's proprietary resin-bonded diamond formula combines very fast cutting with very shallow scratches, preparing the wide-bevel surface for refinement with natural stones.

How much diamond does the stone contain?

Roughly 30% of the stone is diamond. This high diamond content gives Luzi fast cutting speed and makes the foundation-polishing stage easier.

Which grits are available?

There are five grit sizes: 240, 400, 1000, 3000, and 6000. Our documented recommended progression covers 240 through 3000 before natural stones. Ask us about using the additional 6000 grit in your progression.

What are the stone dimensions?

The footprint is 210 × 75 mm. Luzi has 20 mm of diamond-resin abrasive thickness; that measurement describes the abrasive, not a holder or base. Luzi usually includes a few extra millimeters of abrasive thickness beyond the specified 20 mm, at no extra charge. See the full specifications.

When should I transition to natural stones?

The recommended sequence is 240, 400, 1000, then 3000, followed by natural stones. Choose the later natural-stone stages for your blade and desired finish. Specific natural-stone pairings are not yet published on this page.

Does Luzi need soaking?

The wetting method must follow the instructions for the actual Luzi stone. Those care details are not yet published in this preview, so do not assume it is a soaking or splash-and-go stone.

What is the early-bird pricing?

The 240, 400, 1000, and 3000 stones are $169 USD each during early-bird pricing, compared with $199 USD at regular pricing. The three-stone 240, 400, and 1000 set is $480 USD early bird, or $565.21 USD at the proportionally calculated regular set price. The 3000 stone is sold separately. Ask us about 6000 grit pricing.

How is each stone finished?

Every stone is personally hand-flattened on a micron-level-flat granite surface, hand-polished, and finished with all edges chamfered.

Is US shipping included?

Yes. Free shipping applies to all US shipments, for individual stones and sets.
